Bomdilla

Bomdilla is a beautiful town situated in the hills. It is the headquarters of West Kameng district and is worth visiting site with added attraction of Buddhist Monasteries.  The town situated at an elevation of 8400 feet and is an enchanting site to view the brilliant landscape and snow clad mountains of the Himalayan Ranges. It is inhabited by the Monpa, Sherdukpen, Miji, Bugun and Aka tribes. Best time to visit is from the month of October to April. The drive from Tezpur is through scenic and through the thick forests leads. Surrounded by apple orchards, terraced paddy fields, waterfalls make the area beautiful and enchanting. The craft centre is a must visit producing very fine carpets of colourful designs and masks and Buddhist monasteries. Apple orchards, artistic people, snow-capped Himalayan peaks and Buddhist Gompas are all attractions here. It is home to the Sherdukpen tribes. There are a couple of picturesque Gompas and are worth visiting.  Nearby, Dibang is famous for its nice Gompas and the Kalchakra celebrations. Yak breeding centre, Kiwi cultivation, apple orchard and visit to the hot water spring in verdant surroundings are really enjoyable. One can spot the black neck crane of Ladakh which migrates. From here one can proceed to Tawang the road is picturesque. Places to visit in and around Bomdila are Upper and Lower Gompa, Craft center, District Library and Museum, Yak / Sheep breeding and rearing centers, Apple orchards. Nearest airport is situated at Tezpur in Assam and is located about 145 kilometers northwest of Tezpur. Bomdila can be reached either from Guwahati or Tezpur  in Assam by road. However, owing to the rough terrain, these airports are mostly small and cannot handle many flights. Nearest railway station Rangapara and is well connected by Arunachal Express from New Bongaigoan. It is nearly 100 kilometers drive from Bombdila.

From Tezpur there are public and private buses to Bomdila. Two major highway are the 336 kilometer National Highway 52, connects Jonai with Dirak. Another highway connects Tezpur in Assam with Tawang. Regular bus service are available along with private vehicles are also available round the year.

Tawang

Tawang is the district headquarters spread over an area of approximately 2085 square kilometers. It is bordered by Tibet (China) in the North, Bhutan in the South - West and Sela ranges separate West Kameng district in the East. The highest peak is Gorithan 6858 meters. With five major river the Kameng, the Subansari, the Siang, the Lohit and the Tirap there are many options of adventure activities also.  There are mountains, deep valleys, waterfalls and a few lakes, it is ideal for trekking and hiking. The famous 400 year old Buddhist Monastery / Gompa founded by the Mera Lama Lodre Gyasto as per the wishes of the 5th Dalai Lama, Nagwang Lobsang Gyatso is worth visiting. The Tawang monastery of the Gelugpa sect is the largest monastery in India. Tawang was a centre of Tantric religion. The monastery is also known as the Galden Namgyal Lhatse.  One can also visit the local craft centre display / sells very fine woolen carpets of colorful designs and masks. The beauty of Tawang is the century old monastery against the dramatic setting of the snow peak mountains and the alpine surroundings. Sela pass situated at 13714 feet is also a great excursion from here. A memorial known as Jaswantgarh is also nearby. The Taktsang monastery is 45 kilometers, the Brahma dungchung Ani gompa is 12 kilometers and Gyaganga Ani gompa is nearly 5 kilometers from Tawang and are worth visiting. The 12th Century Gorsam Chorten is 92 kilometers from Tawang and is the largest in the area.

There are beautiful lakes around Tawang like other Himalayan station. One is Pankang Teng Tso popularly known as the P.T. Tso or lake. It is a situated in a beautiful setting as if heaven on earth only 17 kilometers away from township. It is a beautiful natural site and provide tourist a lucky chance to be with nature. Other nice lakes are Sangetser lake and Banggachang lake. Other places of visit in the state are Parashuram Kund,  Bhismaknagar,  Malinithan,  Akashiganga, Namdapha,  Itanagar,  Bomdila, etc

Two nearest airport are Tawang Helipad and Salonbari in Tezpur is 360 kilometers. Best time to visit is between the month of October to April. One can reach Tawang from Guwahati - Tezpur - Bomdilla route. Regular bus service and private vehicle are available. Best is to book private vehicle in advance. Warm clothing is required throughout the year. Nearest airport is Tezpur in Assam. Nearest bus stand is Bomdila and the nearest Railway station is Rangapara in Assam.

Tezu

Tezu is the head quarter of Lohit district. This beautiful land of valley and rivers is the home of several tribes like the Singhpos, Khampti and Mishmi tribes. The tribe still has a King and Queens residing in the district headquarters of Tezu. The ancient inhabitant of this land of valley and rivers are the Mishmi tribes with traditions and customs worth knowing. Major Mishmi God is Ringyajabmalu and the major Mishmi festival is known as Tamladu puja held during the mid February. Parashuram Kund is situated on the banks of the river Lohit nearly 21 kilometers from Tezu. It is one of the major pilgrimage sites of the state. The place is also ideal for rafting and angling on the river Lohit.  Thousands of Hindu pilgrims from all over India and also from neighbouring countries visit here to take a holy dip and wash away the sins of millions of births. The fair at Tezu takes place every year during the month of January. The Kund is the scene of a big gathering of visitors and pilgrims coming for a holy dip on Magh Purnima (full moon during January). Preferably the best time to visit this area is between November and February. There is a large lake called Glow Lake. Glow Lake attracts many casual tourists. It is a holy bathing place for all devotees. An interesting fact is the Tibetian family. Tezu has a sizable population of Tibetan community mostly residing in a settlement called Lama Camp, Tibetans settled here since 1960s after fleeing Chinese persecution.  Till date they have maintained their own custom and tradition. They have built monasteries, health center, nursing home, schools. Lama Camp is located in Tindolong nearly 6 kilometers from Tezu Bazaar and has 5 camps. Each camp represent the various different regions of Tibet mainly Kham kongpo and Pemako. Hawa Camp is on the way to Tezu where one can enjoy the panoramic view of the magnificent Lohit valley as well as sunrise and sun set. Other places of visit in the state are Tawang, Parashuram Kund, Bhismaknagar, Malinithan, Akashiganga, Namdapha, Itanagar, Bomdila, etc. Tinsukia - Tezu - Hayuliang Tourist Circuit starts from Tinsukia in Assam to Namsai and Tezu in Lohit district and Hayuliang in Anjaw district of Aruanchal Pradesh. The entry point in Arunachal is at Dirak and is quite popular among tourist. The nearest major airport from Tezu is at Dibrugarh. Nearest railway station from Parasuram Kund is Tinsukia in Assam, nearly 150 kilometers. Parsuram Kund is 21 kilometers from Tezu. It is 615 kilometers from Guwahati. Nearest town is Tinsukia in Assam.

Namdhapa Wildlife Sanctuary

The famous wild life sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh is quite diversified and worth visiting.  This park is Perhaps this is the only park in the world that all the four felines can be spotted like the tiger, the leopard, the snow leopard and the clouded leopard. Trekking, Elephant ride; jungle safari can be enjoyed here. Located in the Changlang district, Namdapha Wildlife Sanctuary has been declared as a national park. It is a few kilometers away from Miao. A visit to the Namdapha National Park is challenging, covering a wide range of altitudes from 200 meters to 4500 meters. Only some part of the forest can be visited and the park largely inaccessible. It has some diverse habitats, flora and fauna that are typical of this region. Wildlife that can be spotted are gaur or mithun, elephant, Himalayan black bear, takin, the wild goat peculiar to the Patkoi range, musk deer, slow loris, binturong. It shares borders with Myanmar. October to April is the best time to visit. The sanctuary has over 150 species of tree including medicinal and ornamental plants. This region is home to a large variety of flora and fauna, some of which are exclusively confined to this area. This place is one of the prime destinations for botanical / zoological excursion and tracking expeditions. Birds spotted can be Assamese macaque, pig - tailed macaque, stump - tailed macaque, hoolock gibbon, monal tragopan, kalij, White winged Wood Ducks, the great Indian Hornbills, Jungle Fowls and Pheasants etc. Three major rivers drain this area. The nearest airport is Dibrugarh and is 160 kilometers drive from Namdhapa. The state's airports are located at Daparjio, Ziro, Along, Tezu and Pasighat. However, owing to the rough terrain, these airports are mostly small and cannot handle many flights. The nearest railhead is Ledo, situated 56 kilometers away from Namdhapa Tiger Park. It is also well connected that the railway station in Margherita, nearly 65 kilometers in Tinsukia, Assam. Other places of interest are Tawang,  Parashuram Kund,  Bhismaknagar,  Malinithan,  Akashiganga, Itanagar,  Bomdila, etc.

Bhalukpong

Bhalukpong is located in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. The town is located at 213 meters and nearly 100 kilometers from Bomdila, 52 kilometers from Tezpur and 5 kilometers from Tipi. It lies along the Kameng river and is the headquarters of Bhalukpong circle. The entire state is popular among tourists because of the scenic beauty. Guest can take a trip to the town of Bhalukpong far away from the hustle and bustle of tourists, as it serves as an exotic getaway. The town is basically visited for its abundant natural beauty. One can take a walk down the riverside, as the Kameng river flows along the town’s perimeter. Angling is a popular option here, as many fishing enthusiasts can be seen in the area. Camping, hiking are also popular options among things to do in Bhalukpong. Trekking in Bhalukpong has grown and one can enjoy the same. Visit to Pakhui Game Sanctuary during the trip to is a tourist hotspot. Many rare species of birds can be spotted in this place, including the wood duck and the great pied hornbill. Tiger, leopards, barking deer and elephants can also be spotted.

It is On the edge of the Pakhui Game Sanctuary. It is mystical wonder land village. One can enjoy jungle safari or even visit the Tipi Orchidarium nearby to view the varied Orchids. From Guwahati the route branches off the Guwahati - Shillong road and moves initially towards the Kaziranga National Park, and diverting once again, the road crosses the Brahmaputra to reach Bhalukpong. It is familiar with the tourist for its adventure sports like trekking, rafting and angling on the river Kameng. Preferable time to visit Bhalukpong is October to April. Tezpur – Bhalukpong – Bomdila - Tawang Tourist Circuit is quite popular among tourist. It is a place for wildlife enthusiasts, nature lovers, and an ideal destination for hikers, rafters and anglers. The annual festival of Nyethidow is celebrated in the month of March. Places to visit are Sela Pass, Tawang Monastery, Tipi Orchidarium, Pakhui Game Sanctuary, etc. Nearest airport is at Tezpur 52 kilometers drive from Bhalukpong. Nearest railway station is at Rangapara.

Dirang

Dirang is nearly 42 kilometers from Bomdila and is 1 ½ hour’s drive. The historical importance is worth mentioning its rich cultural and spiritual legacy. The area around the Kameng River has conventionally under the lead of the Mon kingdom, Bhutan, Tibet and the Ahom kingdom. Lamaism got a powerful foothold among the tribal groups as early as in the 7th century, where the Kachen Lama founded the Lhagyala Gompa in Morshing. The place is famous for hot water springs which on bathing seems to cure skin ailments. Places worth visiting here are the Apple and Kiwi orchards. Dirang is a town on the way from Bomdila to Tawang situated at an altitude of 1600 meters. A couple of resorts are present and a 5 star hotel is coming up. A Government run tourist rest house is near the hot springs near the north end of the city. Other places of visit are National Yak Research and Breeding Center at Nigmadung, Sheep Breeding Farm and the Sangti Valley where Siberian black necked storks visit during winter. Behdeinkhlam festival is one of the colourful festivals is held for three days during the month of July at Jowai. The meaning of the festival signifies 'driving away of evil by wooden sticks'.  Laho Dance where usually two young men on either side of a girl, connecting arms together, dance merrily in step and is a treat to watch. Chad Sukra festival is celebrated during the mid of April or early May and it is observed to safeguard the crops of farmers. The town has a has a great view of Kameng Valley, a 400-year-old fortified monastery and the lovely Sangti Valley nearly 8 kilometers that hosts black-necked cranes in winter.
