Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh is a beautiful state of India. Tucked in the extreme north east, Arunachal Pradesh is a treasure house of nature. It is situated in the north eastern tip of India. The state is bordered on three sides by Bhutan, Peoples Republic of China and Myanmar (Burma). Nature in its full splendor, salubrious climate, simple and hospitable people, Colorful festival, Monasteries, wildlife, you name it its there. Arunachal Pradesh is one of the seven sister state of north east India. It shares international borders with Bhutan in the west, Myanmar in the east and the People's Republic of China in the north. Itanagar is the capital of the state. Literally means the land of the dawn - lit mountains / land of the rising sun as it is the eastern most state of India. Majority of the people are of Tibet - Burman origin. Part of the famous Ledo Burma Road was the lifeline to China during World War II and it passes through the eastern part of the state. Summers are soothing and winters are chilling. The state receives heavy rainfall of 2000 to 4100 millimeters annually and maximum is between May and September. The mountain slopes and hills are covered with alpine, temperate and subtropical forests of rhododendron, oak, pine, maple, fir, juniper, sal, teak, etc.

State Bird is Hornbill, State Flower is Foxtail Orchid, State Animal is Bos Frontalis and the state Tree is Hollong, The state attracts tourists from all over the globe. Attractions includes Tawang a small and beautiful town known for its Buddhist monastery, Ziro is known for cultural festivals, Namdapha tiger project and Sela lake near Bomdila is also known for its bamboo bridges overhanging the river. Religious places of interest are mainly based on mythological stories like Malinithan in Lekhabali, Rukhmininagar near Roing and Parshuram Kund in Lohit district. Rafting, birding, angling and trekking are common activities. The state is also known for its diversified wildlife.  Tourist can participate in the colorful festivals, visit places of worship and pilgrimage such as Parasuram Kund and the 400 year old Buddhist Monastery at Tawang or trip to the sites of archeological excavations like Malinithan and Itafort, visit Bhismaknagar or simply laze around gazing at the snow clad mountain peaks, lush meadows. The state has five major rivers namely Kameng, Subansiri, Lohit, Siang and Tirap winding their way through the hills. Archeological site like World War – II Cemetery in the eastern district of Changlang has been found and this led to renewed interest in the famous Still Well Road built by Allied forces linking Ledo in Assam to Kumming in China and was the only road communication that existed during pre independence days. Religious site like Tawang and Parasuram Kund is a place of great sanctity attracting large numbers of pilgrims from all over India for a dip in the Kund during the festival of Makar Sankranti held annually.

Adventure may include angling, boating, rafting, trekking, and visit the wildlife sanctuaries and national parks.

Communication

Airway – Nearest major airport is Guwahati. Arunachal Pradesh Helicopter Service operates daily service (except on Sundays) between Guwahati to Naharlagun and Guwahati to Tawang.  Other airports are Daporijo, Ziro, Along, Tezu and Pasighat. Owing to the rough terrain, these airports are small and are not always in operation. Railway - Arunachal Pradesh is having no railway link but neighbouring state of Assam is well connected by railways with rest of India. The nearest / closest railway station is Harmuty located at a distance of 35 kilometers from Itanagar. Airway link is from Lilabari Airport of Assam which is the nearest airport for the state.
Roadway - Two highways: the 336 kilometers National Highway 52 connects Jonai with Dirak and another other highway connects Tezpur in Assam with Tawang. Roadways are decent. Bus connectivity of the state is nice along with private transport operators. Private and public transport from Guwahati, Shillong, Tinsukia, Jorhat, Nagaon, Tezpur, Dibrugarh and Namsai connects Itanagar. Itanagar is connected with other major towns in the region such as Agartala, Aizawl, Kohima, Guwahati, Imphal, and Shillong by roads. The drive from Guwahati to Itanagar is 360 kilometers and takes around 8 hours.
