Bhutan

The Kingdom of Bhutan is situated along the lofty ridges of the eastern Himalayas has consciously adopted a controlled tourism policy. The country is bordered by the​ Tibetan Autonomous Region of China in the north and north - west and the Indian states of Sikkim in the West and south - west, Assam in the south, Arunachal Pradesh in the east and south - east and West Bengal in south and south - west. The mighty Himalayas protected Bhutan from the rest of the world and left the Kingdom blissfully untouched. Drukpa Kagyupa sect of Mahayana Buddhism provided the essence of a rich culture and fascinating history. The people protected this sacred heritage and unique identity for ages. This Himalayan state enjoys a sustainable lifestyle. Population of country still live in small villages sparsely scattered over rugged mountain land. Buddhism plays an important role in their peaceful lives. People of Bhutan have treasured the natural environment and have looked upon it as the source of all life. Most spectacular drives is the 20 kilometersm stretch between Sengor and Namning in east Bhutan. Cascading waterfalls, endless turns and frequent fogs and pass citrus groves in the relatively mild climate at Lingmithang.

Communication

Airway – Phuentsholing is approximately 192 kilometers from Bagdogra airport (IXB) by road. Paro is the only international airport of Bhutan; Druk Air operates weekly flights from Bangkok and more frequent flight from Delhi, Kolkata, Kathmandu, etc. The flight path is along the Himalayan Range and all the peaks are visible on clear sky and is worth flying. Roadway – Indian border town Jaigaon is 180 kilometers from Siliguri and another two kilometers it’s Phuentsholing. Phuentsholing is four - five hour's drive from Bagdogra Airport (IXB) / New Jalpaiguri Station (NJP) / Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus and five to seven hours drive from Gangtok, Pelling or Darjeeling. Railway – No railway system in Bhutan exist till date. Like Nepal here also the bordering city of Bhutan is linked with Indian Railway. One can travel up to Bhutan border Phuentsholling and then drive to Indian station at Hashimara / Alipurduar, etc and avail Indian Railway. Nearest major railway station from Samdrup Jongkhar is Guwahati. Cooch Behar is also close to Phuentsholling.
