Dooars 

Dooars or Duars literally means Door or gateway. It may have been meant for serving as the door to Bhutan and North East Indian states. It is spread over the foothills of Himalaya stretching over an area of 8800 square kilometer and is crossed with fast flowing rivers. The altitude ranges from 90 to 1750 meters. Many a stream / rivers flow through these fertile plains from the mountains of Bhutan. In Assam, the major rivers are the Brahmaputra and Manas. In the state of West Bengal the rivers are Teesta, Jaldhaka, Torsha, Murty, Sankosh, Karatowa, Raidak, Kaljani, Dyna, etc. Gorumara National Park, Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, Buxa Tiger Reserve, Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary, Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary are some of the wildlife center of Dooars. Other than the the One horned Rhinoceros, the fauna of the area include Asian Elephant, Gaur, Leopard, different species of deer, etc. The towns of Jaigaon, Jalpaiguri, Chalsa, Hashimara, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Siliguri and Phuentsholing are important hubs of the region. Nature at its best, also for its diverse and versatile flora and fauna makes it a paradise for tourist. Thick and vast jungles of Dooars are the home to wildlife. Tea estate offers people the flavour of being in the region of pleasant surprises. Dooars practically includes Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Goalpara Dhubri, and Bongaigaon districts of Assam along with the area of Jalpaiguri District and the plains of Darjeeling District. Also included is the upper region of Cooch Behar district located in West Bengal. Jungle safari is closed from 15 June to 15 September every year. Safari bookings can be made on the spot by guest. We generally take care of transfer, excursion and stay. Some of the popular places worth paying a visit include Kathambari, Lepchakha, Odlabari, Rajabhatkhawa, Raimatang, Nimati, Nilpara, Buxa Tiger Reserve, Samsing, Chapramari Wildlife Camp, Chilapata Camp, Totapara, Khairbari, Suntalekhola, Bindu, Buxa Duar, Jayanti, Rasikbill, Jalpesh, Gajoldoba, Khuttimari, Jalpesh, Murti, Neora Valley, Bhutanghat, Falakata, Bodaganj, Ambari, Jaldhaka, Parren Basti, etc.

Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, Jaldapara, Buxa Tiger Reserve, Gorumara, Chapramari are National Park / Sanctuary and has the greatest rush due to its activities like Jeep safari, Elephant ride, etc.

Communication

Airway - Bagdogra airport (IXB) is the nearest and major airport. All the major destinations of Dooars are approximately 2 - 4 hours drive from Bagdogra Airport (IXB). Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is served by regular flights from Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai and Delhi on regular basis. Railway – Nearest major railway station is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) and is situated 10 kilometers away from Siliguri. Siliguri is linked to the Dooars by road and is two to four hours drive. Other railway station in the belt are Chalsa, Malbazar, Hashimara, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar and Rajabhatkhawa but the frequency of trains is less hence tourist are adviced to use Siliguri as the entry to Dooars. Roadway – Dooars / Duars is well linked with Siliguri, Bhutan, Assam, kalimpong and other destinations by road. Jaldapara / Gorumara are linked by National Highway Number 31 with Siliguri. Chapramari nearly 95 kilometers; Buxa is nearly 190 kilometers and can be reached by car within 2 – 4 hours. There are three approach roads to Dooars one is National Highway number 31, one via Gajoldoba and the third is via Jalpaiguri from Siliguri.
