Gangtok

Gangtok is situated is known for natural beauty and an inclination or interest in the Buddhist religion and culture. Beautiful monasteries, including the esteemed Rumtek and the awe-inspiring Khangchendzonga – the third highest mountain peak in the world are worth mentioning. Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim and is in the East District. Gangtok lies on a ridge overlooking the Ranipool River. It is situated at an altitude of 1600 meters / 5200 feet meters and covers an area of nearly 2.54 square kilometers. The setting is spectacular with fine views of the Kangchendzonga range. The best season to visit Gangtok is from mid of October to med June. English, Nepali, Hindi and Tibetan are spoken in Gangtok. Ganesh Tok and Hanuman Tok are two view point, The Ridge and the  Ridge Park, Tashi View Point, Changu Lake, Nathu La Pass, Do-Drul Chorten, Rumtek Monastery, Ranka Monastery, Ban Jhakri falls, Ropeway, Directorate of Handicrafts and Handlooms / Government Institute of Cottage Industries, Himalayan Zoological Park (Bulbuley),  Kabi Longstok are some of the places of tourist interest. The Sikkim Research Institute of Tibetology is a premier institute in the world to conduct research on the language and traditions of Tibet as well as the Mahayana sect of Buddhism. The ridge is lined with plants and trees which when in bloom present a colorful picture. The Ridge has the White Hall and the Chief Minister’s official residence on one end and the beautifully designed Place Gate with a pagoda rooftop on the other end. Butterflies, birds, orchids are also the center of attraction. One day tour may include some of the places of visit to suit the guest. Gangtok is also the center of all activity of North Sikkim. Lachung, Lachen visit initiates and terminates at Gangtok. Permit etc are issued from here.

Yuksom / Kanchendzonga National Park

Yuksom is a historical town in West Sikkim district in the North East Indian state of Sikkim. It was the first capital of Sikkim established in 1642 A D by Phuntsog Namgyal who was the first Chogyal / king of Sikkim. The coronation site of the first monarch of Sikkim is known as the Throne of Norbugang Yuksom and is now in ruins. Yuksom literally means the meeting place of the three learned monks as three monks who came from Tibet selected Phuntsog Namgyal as the first King of Sikkim. Yuksom has special religious and cultural significance. Yuksom has a number of famous Buddhist monasteries and historical monuments. The entry to the Khangchendzonga National Park and as the base camp for trekking to Mount Khangchendzonga starts from here. The biodiversity preservation of the Rathong Chu valley and the villager’s plays a significant role in promotion of eco-tourism in the area. The forest has broad-leaved oak, birch, maple, chestnut, magnolia, rhododendron, silver fir, ash, alder, etc. It is a biodiversity hot-spot in Sikkim. The state of Sikkim is also a trekker's paradise; Green Lake and Dzongri Trek is two classical trek route in Sikkim. The trek from Yuksom to Dzongri Peak and further on to Goecha La is one of the most popular trek in Sikkim. It passes through the unspoiled forests, magnificent rhododendron gardens and the rivers of Kanchenjunga National Park. Tibetan Buddhist monastery, Dubdi Monastery, is situated here in the area along with the smaller Mallu Monastery. Established in 1701, Dubdi Monastery professes to be the oldest monastery in Sikkim and is located at the top of a hill about an hour's walk from Yuksom, popularly known as the Hermit's Cell after its reclusive founder Lhatsun Namkha Jigme.

Pelling

Pelling is nearly 10 kilometers from Gyalshing, the district capital. Pelling was always the second biggest tourist destination in the state after Gangtok. The prime attraction of Pelling is the breathtaking view it offers of the Khangchendzonga and surrounding ranges. Pelling is strategically located among other tourist destinations nearby. Each one of these destinations has easy access and offers its visitors various options. Pemayangtse monastery is less than a kilometre from Pelling while a 40 minute walk on the hill opposite the monastery is the Sanga Choling monastery built in 1697 perhaps the first in the state. Named after the guardian deity of Sikkim, the Khangchendzonga Festival is held at Pelling each year with Flower exhibitions, traditional crafts and ethnic food and costume stalls, etc. It offers other activities like white-water rafting, kayaking, trekking, mountain biking, sightseeing, traditional sports, bird- watching, etc. Cultural folk dances and music also add colour to the festivities. The place offers serene environment and picturesque setting. It is perfect for nice nature walks and small treks. Pelling is a destination for all seasons with hotels and resorts catering to all budgets. Few places close to Pelling is also worth visiting like Ravangla, Yuksom, kaluk, Rinchenpong, Namchi, Uttarey, Varsey, etc. Pelling is also the starting point of Goechala Trek and Dzongri trek. The trek technically starts from Yuksom yet Pelling is the best location to start. On the way to trek there are trekker’s huts at Bakhim, Tsokha, Dzongri, Kokchuran, Thangsing and Samiti Lake.

Mangan

Mangan is located at the following latitude and longitudes i.e.27.52°N 88.53°E. It has an average elevation of 956 meters / 3136 feet. It is situated nearly 67 kilometers from Gangtok; this small town is the district headquarters of the spectacular North district. Mangan is an attractive place with good views and is a transit point to other destinations of the region. An annual three day music festival is held here during December every year. Music Bands / Groups from the region as well as from the other North eastern states gathers to compete for the main prize. Vegetation, scenic beauty the cold weather makes this place a tourist paradise. The town opens up the Tibetan Plateau and it serves the towns of Lachung, Chungthang and Lachen in the north. Mangan serves as an important location in the district and tourists visit this town as a base from where they embark on treks and tours to other parts in the region. There are a few places of interest around Mangan that you can visit during your trip to the region. Labrang monastery lies near Mangan are another place of interest. This is one of the oldest monastery monasteries that was constructed in the year 1814. During the tour to Mangan, one can also visit the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary that houses more than forty species of rhododendron. Guest can stay in here for three nights and visit places like Lachung, Yumthang valley in a day trip, next day visit to Lachen and Gurudongmar Lake. Visit or small trek to nearby places is also advisable to adventure loving guest or tourist.

Chungthang

Chungthang is a small settlement in North Sikkim district in the Indian state of Sikkim situated at an elevation of 1790 meters / 5870 feet. It is situated at the confluence of two rivers namely Lachen chhu and Lachung chhu both are tributaries of the River Teesta. Chungthang is located a distance of nearly 95 kilometers from the capital Gangtok. The place is known to travellers as a spot where all vehicle plying to Lachen and Lachung stops here for refreshment. The road to Lachen and Lachung diverts from here. The resident of the place are mostly from the Lepcha community. The place is rich in biodiversity with a diversified variety of orchids, plants and animals found here. As per history Guru Padmasambhabwa visited the town before going to Tibet and left his footprint on a rock where he once rested. Around the rock some paddy is grown, which is supposed to be a miracle as paddy does not grow in these conditions. As per legend it is said that Guru Nanak on one of his journeys along with his disciples had come across this place and vanquished two demons here before proceeding. The footprints of that battle were believed to be still left on that cordoned off rock. It is also said that Chungthang derived from the Punjabi literally means Changa Sthan or nice place. Guest can stay in here for three nights and visit places like Lachung, Yumthang valley in a day trip, next day visit to Lachen and Gurudongmar Lake. Visit or small trek to nearby places is also advisable to adventure loving guest or tourist.

Lachen / Chopta Valley

Lachen is a small settlement in the North Sikkim district of the Indian state of Sikkim. It is located at an elevation of nearly 2750 meters.  Lachen literally means big pass. The town is quite popular as a tourist destination among the traveler / tourist. The town offers scenic beauty and panoramic view of the Himalayan mountain range with abundant wildlife. The town forms the base to the Chopta Valley, Green Lake and Gurudongmar Lake. There is n annual festival held here known as the yak race, generally held in summer. Lachen is nearly 129 kilometers from Gangtok and is 5 - 6 hours drive. A stoppage at Chungthang is generally given for refreshment. The road is scenic in this adventurous journey from Gangtok. There is also a short two-day-long trekking route connecting Yumthang Valley to Lachen. One can find trekkers hut, guest house and home stay to stay easily. Infrastructure is not so developed as a tourist destination in Lachung yet it retains a freshness and charm. The settlement comprises of less than 200 houses. Lachen is the starting point for some of the most interesting treks in North Sikkim as well as the gateway to the holy Gurudongmar and Tso Lhamu lakes. One can visit the Lachen Gompa here and enjoy the simple village life of the Lachenpas. The area is restricted for foreigners, but special passes can be procured in advance.
While proceeding north from Lachen one come across a small settlement called Thangu its also act as the base camp for trekkers while returning from Green Lake. In Thangu the daytime temperature is from 4°C to 12°C degrees Celsius (40°F to 55 °F) in the months of June and July. Gurudongmar Lake can be reached from Lachen. It’s a beautiful serene Lake situated in the cold desert type condition. It offers panoramic view and the sacred lake is worth visiting.

Lachung / Yumesamdong

Yumthang is situated at an elevation of 11800 feet and is popularly known as the Valley of Flowers. It is located nearly 148 kilometers from Gangtok and is 5 - 6 hours drive. A paradise for nature lovers with a fascinating blend of flora, fauna and breathtaking scenic beauty, Lachung is perhaps the most sought after tourist spot in Sikkim. During spring i.e. March end to April wild flowers like primulas and Rhododendrons bathe the landscape in rich colours. The attractions are Yumthang Valley, Lachung Monastery, Yumesamdong, Katao and the hot water spring. Its a tourist hotspot and is covered by snow for at least four month of the year. Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary is on the way to Lachung and has nearly 24 species of Rhododendron, the flowers bloom from April to May end. Hot spring located on the right near the Yumthang valley with the river is a popular tourist attraction. Vast green meadow, lush green forest abounding in Pine and silver fir trees throngs the place and makes it a tourist paradise. While driving towards Lachung or Lachen guest can come across numerous cascading waterfalls and streams.
Stay at Lachung during December to Early May is refreshing and exhilarating. Situated at a distance of 17 kilometers at an altitude of nearly 16,000 feet is Yumesamdong. It’s a cold desert surrounded by the snow covered Himalayan range. Months of November to March present a breathtaking beauty. The approach to Yumthang is from Lachung valley, situated at a height of 8000 feet. It is at a distance of 120 kilometers from Gangtok. The village of Lachung is spread on either side of the river Lachung Chu and it has its own unique culture and tradition. The area is restricted for foreigners, but special passes can be procured in advance.

Namchi / Solophok

Solophok is nearly kilometers from Namchi. It came up as a project of the Government of Sikkim as an eco friendly and religious center. This construction of the pilgrimage and religious tourism center coupled with home stay and eco tourism is a hot spot in South Sikkim. This recently developed centre has a main temple of 108 feet height on which is based the 87 feet high statue of Lord Shiva on the sitting posture at the Solophok Hill. Apart from Shiva statue, this Pilgrim Centre also has replicas of the twelve Jyotirlingas to offer one platform for Shiva devotees. Solophok Chardham Lord Shiva incarnated as Kirateshwar and is worshipped by the people of the state. A statue of 16 1/2 feet height of Lord Kirateshwar is also installed in the complex. Hindu believes that to attend Moksha one has to perform pilgrimage to all the existing four Dhams in India. Hence replicas of these four Dhams namely Badrinath, Jagannath and Dwarka dedicated to Vishnu, Rameshwar and Shiva is constructed in this site. Solophok Chardham is spread over 7 acres and is accessible by a decent road. Facilities include car parking, driver’s room, kiosks, rest rooms, cafeteria, main prayer hall, viewing pavilion, water bodies and musical fountain. Tourist spots in West Sikkim which are worth visiting are many and are worth visiting. Some of them are Rangit Water World, Shiv Mandir, Legship, Tashiding, Kongrilabdang, Soreng, Chakung, Limboo Cultural Centre, Tharpu, Borong, Jurelidanra, Varsey, Rinchenpong - Kaluk, Hee Bermiok, Sirijonga Fooku & Wadhan (Cave), Dentam, Singshore Bridge, Uttarey, etc. Nearest airport for Sikkim is Bagdogra Airport (IXB) in the state of West Bengal which is nearly 100 kilometers and approximately 3 ½ hour’s drive from Namchi. Sikkim Tourism operates a five - seated chopper service between Gangtok and Bagdogra.

Okhrey / Sikip

Okhrey is a small village situated in the West Sikkim district of India. It is mostly inhabited by Sherpas. It is nearly 110 kilometers from the capital city of Gangtok. The nearest town from Okhrey is Sombaria is around 20 kilometers. The temperature of Okhrey can reach up to − 2 °C / 28 °F in winter and it offers moderate / pleasant climate in summer. Okhrey is one of the newly developed destinations in Sikkim. One can spot this small cozy and less famed village of Okhrey on your way to Varsey / Bharsey. Varsey and Uttarey is one of the most sought after trekking trails through the forest of Rhododendron. At Okhrey, you can stay overnight and start the journey to Hilley around 10 kilometers. One has to park the car at Hilley and start a small trek of 4 kilometers to Varsey. The trek is scenic and passes through a small natural lake, natural surroundings and breathtaking views of mount Kanchenjungha and endless stretches of Rhododendrons. Guest will enjoy the stay at Okhrey and will be amazed by the breathtaking natural splendor and its surroundings. It is shrouded with tranquility and an ideal place to stay away from the crowd. Nearest airport from Okhrey in Sikkim is Bagdogra in North Bengal which is 130 kilometers and approximately 4 hours drive from here.  Sikkim Tourism operates daily a five seated helicopter service between Gangtok and Bagdogra connecting all civil flights. Sikip is located on the banks of River Rangeet in the South District of Sikkim in India. The drive by car from Gangtok to Sikip takes about five hours via Legship and is also accessible from Siliguri and Darjeeling via Jorethang. It’s an Anglers paradise also has charming natural surroundings. One can also avail the facility of rafting down the Rangeet River. It offers moderate / pleasant climate in summer.

Borong

Borong is situated in the South Sikkim district of Sikkim in India. It is nearly 117 kilometers from Siliguri and is 3 -4 hours drive. It is 17 kilometers from Ravangla and is an hour’s drive. Borong is situated at an elevation of nearly 5800 feet and is a perfect destination for nature lovers. Borong can be easily accessed from Siliguri, Gangtok, Pelling, Rinchengpong, Darjeeling, Kalimpong or New Jalpaiguri. With the backdrop of the Himalayan Mountains it offers an ideal place for those seeking peace and tranquility. On a clear day one can catch a glimpse of Mt. Kanchenjungha and other the snowcapped peaks including Sinolchu, Narsingh and Pandim peaks. Spectacular view of sunrise from the snow-covered mountains is perhaps the main reason behind a visit to this beautiful place. Nearly 5 kilometers away is the Ralong Monastery. Tourist can also visit places like Famtam Village, Gurang Monastery, the Silver Falls and the Barmely Bridge. A hot fountain is located at a distance of some 3 kilometers and is on the bank of Rangit River. The Tathgatha Centre or The Buddha Park as it is known locally is in Rabong and is worth visiting. One can also try trekking to Maenam Peak. There is also a trekking route at Namchi that ends in Borong. Bird - watching and angling can also be practiced here. It’s an Anglers paradise also has charming natural surroundings. One can also avail the facility of rafting down the Rangeet River. It offers moderate / pleasant climate in summer. Rinchenpong

Rinchenpong is a settlement in West Sikkim district of Sikkim in India. It is situated about 40 kilometers west of Gangtok and nearly 10 kilometers south of Gyalshing close to the destinations called of Kaluk. It is situated at an elevation of 1700 meters / 5576 feet in a forested area. It is famous among tourist for the Rigsum Monastery and trekking routes.There is an historical site were battle between the forces of the then Chogyal (King) of Sikkim and the invading British forces was fought. The Lepcha tribesmen used a concoction of unidentified herbs to poison the only water source, a lake (local term: pokhri). As a result more than half of the British forces were wiped out which stopped the British invasion and resulted in an accord. The lake remains poisoned even to this day and is known as bikh - pokhri(poisoned lake) locally. Travelers can Trek to Bersey Rhododendron Sanctuary or visit Bersey Rhododendron Sanctuary by Road. The other places of visit are Sai Mandir at Daramdin, Singshore Bridge (2nd Asia highest Bridge),  Samduptse (Statue of Guru Padmasambhava), Temi Tea Garden, Heritage House, Rinchenpong Monastery, Khechoepalri Lake, Stone Thrown of 1st Coronation King of Sikkim at Yuksom, Hot Spring (Taato Paani) at Legship, River rafting at Teesta on your way to sightseeing or while returning back to Siliguri. New Jalpaiguri Railway station to Rinchenpong is 135 kilometers and from Gangtok the distance is 130 kilometers and is 3 -4 hours drive by car either way. It is nearly 45 kilometers from Pelling and nearly 85 kilometers from Darjeeling. On a clear day, the snow clad peaks of Kanchenjunga, Kabru, Rathong, Kumbakarna, Koktang, etc. dazzle the sky. Important places to visit here are Heritage House, Rinchenpong Monastery, Rabindra Memorial Garden, Risham Monastery, etc.

Tsomgo Lake

Tsomgo or Chhangu is literally known as source of the lake. It is situated nearly 42 kilometers from Gangtok the capital city of Sikkim. The serene lake is situated at an altitude of nearly 12000 feet on the Gangtok Nathu La highway. It is in the restricted area and hence an inner line permit is required by Indians to visit this place. Foreign nationals are not permitted to visit this lake without special permission. People’s Republic of China is the bordering state.  The lake is about 1 kilometers long, oval in shape, 15 meters deep and is considered sacred by the local people. It is also a home of Brahmini ducks congenial, cool, placid water harmonizes with the scenic beauty around. A small temple of lord Siva is constructed on the lakeside. This high altitude lake remains frozen during the winter months up to mid-May.
Annually between April and June it is possible to view a variety of flowers in blooms, including the rhododendrons, various species of primulas, blue and yellow poppies, irises etc. It is also an ideal habitat for the red panda and various species of migratory birds. Tsomgo lake lies in the restricted area on the Gangtok Nathu La highway hence the lake can only be visited by a prior permission of the authorities. Foreign nationals can only visit the lake having obtained a no objection certificate from the managing authorities of the lake. Identity card like Voters ID / Driving license / Passport / Similar card is required along with passport size photograph. The documents can be deposited the previous evening with the respective authority. We also arrange for the same. Nathula Pass is nearly 18 kilometers from the Lake and requires further documentation and the cost is supplementary.

Rumtek Monastery

Dharma Chakra Center or the Rumtek Monastery is located in eastern Sikkim nearly 24 kilometers away from Gangtok. It is situated at an altitude of about 1547 metres / 5800 feet. The monastery or the Dharma Chakra is located on the top of the hill facing the city of Gangtok. Rumtek Monastery is one of the most important seats of the Kagyu lineage outside Tibet. This complex embodies the vision and aspiration of the Sixteenth Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, to establish his seat-in-exile in order to spread the teachings of the Buddha throughout the world. The Rumtek monastery is the largest monastery in Sikkim, and a home of the monk’s community. The present complex has many sacred objects. One of the most magnificent / valuable objects is the Golden Stupa, which contains the precious relics of His Holiness, the Sixteenth Karmapa. A college or Karma Shri Nalanda Institute for Higher Buddhist Studies is situated opposite the building. The Stupa walkway surrounds the Rumtek monastery, where monks, pilgrims and visitors perform kora. The Dharma Chakra Center includes a beautifully structured main shrine temple and monastery with monks' quarters, a three-year retreat center, a monastic college, where the relics of the Sixteenth Karmapa are enshrined, nunnery, stupas, a protector's shrine, institutions for the lay community and other establishments. Stay at Rumtek is much more peaceful than staying at Gangtok. Places to visit are Ganesh Tok and Hanuman Tok are two view point, The Ridge and the  Ridge Park, Tashi View Point, Changu Lake, Nathu La Pass, Do-Drul Chorten, Rumtek Monastery, Ranka Monastery, Ban Jhakri falls, Ropeway, Directorate of Handicrafts and Handlooms / Government Institute of Cottage Industries, Himalayan Zoological Park (Bulbuley),  Kabi Longstok. Packages to Lachen and Lachung are also organized from here.

Uttarey / Varsey

This beautiful destination is in the west district of Sikkim. It is easily accessible by road. Guest can reach Uttarey from Pelling, Gezing, Siliguri, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Gangtok or Dentum. Uttarey is known for its tranquility and scenic and natural beauty. The place provides beautiful view to the Himalayan Mountains but is relatively less traveled by tourists. This allows a more serene atmosphere to be enjoyed. During winter the mountains around here are covered with snow allowing heavenly views.The local monastery or the Kagju Gumpha is a highly revered place of worship for the locals and a good place to visit. The monastery is situated amidst dense forests. The wall paintings in the monastery might be of interest to you. Dentam peak and the river are also visible from the monastery. Other places of interest around Uttarey include the Mainbus Waterfall and the Chewyabhang Pass. This pass is nearly 10 kilometers of Uttarey and is the gateway to Nepal. Varsey is a small valley on the Singalila Range amidst colourful Rhododendron trees. It is situated in the extreme point of West Sikkim and at an altitude of nearly 10500 feet.  The forest covers spreads over 104 square kilometers is ablaze with bright flowers with hues ranging from bright red to pure white against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains. The color riots can be observed in the spring i.e.  during the months of April-May.
Varsey can be approached from any of the three entries i.e. Hiley, Dentam and Uttarey. But Hiley entry is the most preferred one due to better transportation system. A 4 kilometers easy walk route from Hiley through Singalila covered Rhododendron forest will take one to Varsey.  The distance can be covered in around 1 ½ hours to 2 hours to cover this short distance. Spending a night or two in this remote Himalayan valley is worth. The place enjoys moderate climate with clean environment throughout the year. Despite the global warming, Uttarey sometimes enjoys with heavy snow fall during winter seasons. From Varsey some short & long treks can be arranged to Uttarey, He Bermiok, Dentam, Phalut, Gorkey etc.

Rhenock

Rhenock is a small settlement in the east district in the Indian state of Sikkim. This small settlement is a Tehsil in East District of the state of Sikkim, India. Rhenock Tehsil Head Quarters is Rhenock Tarpin town. It is located nearly 60 kilometers towards South from district head quarters of Gangtok. It is located at 27.17° N 88.64° E. It lies nearly 63 kilometers east of Gangtok and nearly 120 kilometers from Siliguri. The route is either through Rangpo or Pedong on the way to Jelepla Pass at an altitude of nearly 1040 meters. It is very cold in summer and chilling in winter. The highest day temperature in summer is in between 15 ° C to 20° C and winters are chilling at about 4° C - 7° C.
The word Rhenock literally means Black Hill. Situated in the extreme east of Sikkim, was covered with dense forest in and around the 13th century. The Lepchas were the early settlers about five or six hundred years ago. After the Lepchas, Bhutias settled in the villages presently known as Kyongsa, Aritar, Tarpin, Chalisey, etc. Rishi and Lingsey in West Bengal are also close from here. Places of visit are Aritar Lake, Wood Land Nursery, Aritar Gumpa / monastery, Lonely falls or Kali Khola, Ramgauri Sangralaya or the Museum carrying the history of Sikkim, Kupup Lake, Memencho Lake, Nathang Valley, Jelep La Pass, Pangulakha Wild Life Sanctuary nearly covered from Chandney to Bhutan border, Lampokhori Lake, Mangkhim, Hattey pahile, etc. Aritar, Rumtek (Dharmachakra Centre), Gangtok, Kalimpong, Gorubathan, Pelling, Namchi are all close to Rhenock. Nearby important tourist destinations are Jelepla Pass, Mulkharka Lake, Pedong, Sillery Gaon, Namchi, Kuppup Lake, Memencho Lake, etc.

Ravangla

Ravangla or Ravongla is a small settlement situated at an elevation of 7000 feet. It is situated in South Sikkim district of the Indian state of Sikkim. Ravangla is located on the ridge separating the Teesta valley from the Rangit valley and is the latest tourist attraction in Sikkim. Close to the Temi Tea Estate with unobstructed views of the Himalayan snow peaks. Ravangla offers breath taking views of Kanchanjungha along with its sister peaks of Pandim, Kabru, Sinialchu and many others. The place is located at the foot of Menam hill. It is connected by state highway to other major towns in the state and lies between Pelling and Gangtok. It is well connected to Siligur1 i.e. 150 kilometers and nearly 5 hours drive.  Ravangla is also connected with other tourist spot of Sikkim, like Gantok is nearly 90 kilometers and Pelling around three hours drive. Ravangla stages the Pang Lhabsol festival in a grand manner every year around August-September. The festivities last for three days, culminating in the traditional dances known as ‘Chaam’ on the last day. 8 kilometers on way to Damthang is the Rayong sunrise view point that offers spectacular views of the first rays of the sun falling on snow peaks and the whole range of Himalaya is mesmerizing. Visit the Ralong monastery as well as the Tibetan Carpet Centre. The traditionally designed and woven carpets available here are said to be the best one can buy. Places in this circuit are Namchi, Borong, Uttarey, Varsey, Rinchenpong, Hilley, Pelling, Yuksom etc. There is quite a number of small trek originating from here. Sikkim’s lone Tea estate is nearby.

Aritar Lake

Aritar a small settlement in East Sikkim district of India. It is known for its natural and landscaped beauty. It is located on the edge of the Himalayas and can be reached in about four hours' drive from Gangtok and Siliguri via Rangpo. There are two more approach road one from Kalimpong via Pedong and Reshi the other from Gangtok via Pakyong. This location is isolated from the rest of the state and bounded by mount Kanchendzonga. The region is scenic and is surrounded by lush forest, mountains and rivers. The Aritar Lake (Ghati-Tso) is a nearby attraction, as are are some villages and monasteries such as Lingsay, Reshi, Zuluk, Lingtam, etc. Visitors may also stay in a British-built bungalow of 1895 located just below the lake. Lampokhari is one of the oldest natural lake in Sikkim and recently artificially constructed to facilitate boating for the tourists. This is situated at an altitude of nearly 1400 meters / 4600 feet.  One can gp up the road adjacent to the lake to the view point.
Dak Bunglow, Aritar Gumpa, Parbateyswar Shivalaya Mandir, Mankhim is a Temple of the Rai of Nepali origin is located at a height of 6500 feet at Maity Village, Nirmal Dham, Ever green nursery & Ram Gauri Sangrhalaya, Kali khola falls also known as Lonely falls, Changey water fall, Lungchok valley and few other places like Kupup Lake, Memencho Lake, Nathang Valley, Jelep La Pass are all places of interest nearby. There are few trek routes from here like Mulkharka Lake, Lungchok valley and further to destination like Lokdara, Chujachen, even one can trek the Neora valley. There is the trek to Phushery Lake, Pangolakha and Rachela. It is the historic trijunction border of Sikkim, West Bengal and Bhutan, is quite thrilling experience. Trekkers may spot Red panda, Peasant, Rare Species of butterflies, Wild orchids and other exotic flora and fauna, etc. The region is scenic and do not have much infrastructure yet home stay and isolation attracts lots of tourist. There are many small destinations nearby. Excursion to Jelep La Ppass if the road condition and the permit is issued is worth it. Sunrise from Thambi View Point above Zuluk is worth mentioning. It is situated at an altitude of 11200 feet with lovely view of the entire eastern Himalayas. Lungthung at an altitude of 13000 feet is also worth visiting for sunrise view. Kalpokhri Lake, Adi Baba Mandir, Memmencho Lake and Kupup Lake are also on the way to the excursion. One can enjoy the view of Memencho Lake and Kupup Lake or the Bitang Cho Lake. Kupup lake is also known as Elephant lake also owning to it shape is also a popular destination. You would also find the highest golf course in the world near Kupup Lake.  

Zuluk / Nathang Valley

Zuluk is in East district of Sikkim. It is nearly 150 kilometers from Siliguri. The perpit are issued from Rongli police station and next from Lingtam. Inner Line Permit (ILP) is required to visit this region. The road leads to Jelep La pass, Marthu La Pass and ultimately meets at Gangtok. The drive from Siliguri is 4 -5 hours and will reach Aritar. A three night journey is hectic hence 4 - 5 nights stay is recommended to enjoy the beauty of the region. Zuluk is a hamlet located situated an altitude of nearly 3000 meters. It is located near the Indo - China - Bhutan border. It is comparatively a new and offbeat tourist destination. The place has a population of around 1000 people with a army base used as a transit camp for army movement to the Chinese border. It is said that its one of the off shoot of the popular silk route connecting Kalimpong to Tibet and was mainly used by traders traveling to Tibet. During winters, the entire area around Zuluk gets covered in snow till April. During autumn the region is covered with wild flowers of all types. However, this small village of Zuluk is used as a base to see one of the most magnificent sunrise view over Mt. Kanchenjunga. Places of interest also include the route to Jelep La pass. The zigzag roads of Jhuluk offer beautiful views of the Kanchenjunga and its mountain range. The other attractions of the place include lakes, temples and Young Husband Track, a route that leads to Tibet. The forest around is virgin and are completely unexplored and offer a variety of flora and fauna. One can spot wildlife like Deer, Himalayan Bears, Wild Dogs, Red Pandas, Tigers and Snow Leopard. This is also a nice birding zone with migratory birds. One can spot   Monal Pheasant, Khaleez Pheasant, Blood Pheasant, Snow Pheasant and many more.
