Assam  

The Indian state of Assam is the central main or major state in the north east region of India. It serves as the gateway to the rest of the seven sister States. Red river and blue hills, it is reflected peerless in the exquisite natural beauty, cultural richness. In earlier days the state of Assam was known as Pragjyotisha or Pragjyotishpura and Kamarupa. Assam shares its borders with the Kingdom of Bhutan and the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh in the North and East.  Along the south it is bordered by Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram. Meghalaya lies to the South- West, Bengal and Bangladesh to the West. The state is beautiful, diverse with an incredible range of cultures and landscapes. It is situated in the north east of India. The wildlife in Assam is quite diversified and it includes Kaziranga National Park, Manas National Park, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, Nameri National Park, Dibru Saikhowa National Park etc. The climate is sub-tropical but with bit mildness. Monsoon is heavy rainfall, summers and winters are mild. Spring and autumn seasons are quite soothing. The place is quite good for visitors any time of the year and it’s enjoyable.

The state has many fascinating aspects to enjoy and experience. Some of them includes the Kaziranga National Park, home to the world famous one horned rhinoceros, the beautiful Majuli Island perhaps the largest River Island, ancient Ahom architectural marvels, numerous Tea estate, Golf course backed by beautiful heritage and colonial tea bungalows. The other attraction is the mighty Brahmaputra with its angling, and cruising facilities. Assam is also known for its tea, rich flora, ​fauna and other rare species of wildlife. There are quite a few places of interest like Shivsagar, Hajo, Haflong, Tinsukia etc. Shivsagar itself has places like Rang Ghar, , Charaideo, Namdang Stone Bridge, Talatal Ghar, Joy Dol, Sivasagar Tank, Joysagar Tank, Joymati Maydam, Vishnu Dol, Devi Dole, Sivadol, Kareng Ghar of Garhgaon, Gourisagar Dol and Tank, Uttran Museum, etc. Lohit Valley and Kibithoo are something which are unexplored in Assam. Trek to Namdapha National Park and Double Decker Living Root Bridge, visit to Tea Estate, Cherrapunji, Manas, Kaziranga, etc are all to be enjoyed in this state only.

Each destination has its own places of interest. Major like Guwahati have Kamakhya Temple, River Cruise on the river Brahmaputra, Shankardev Kalakshetra, Umananda Temple, Assam State Zoo, Shilpagram etc as places of interest. In the outskirt of the city are Chandubi Lake, Sonapur, Madan Kamdev and Chandrapur etc. Other places of interest are Majuli, Jatinga, Tezpur, Kaziranga National Park, Dibrugarh, etc.

Airway – Assam is well connected with the rest of India by Air with daily flights. Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport of Guwahati is well connected by air to Siliguri, Kolkata, Delhi, etc of on regular basis. Frequency of the flights is high in Guwahati in north East India. Most of the major air carriers connect Guwahati to some of the major cities of India. Chopper services are also available to Tura, Shillong, Naharlagun, etc. Railway – Guwahati is the largest railway station in North East India. Daily trains to Kolkata, Chennai, Siliguri, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi etc is available from Guwahati. Rajdhani Express, Saraighat Express, Dadar Express, and Bangalore Express are on regular basis. There is also link with Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Dimapur and Murkong – Selek, etc. Roadway – Assam is the gateway to north east India and is the junction of national highway number 31, 37, 40 and 52. Guwahati is the hub of the road network to the north eastern region. Aizawl, Bomdila, Dimapur, Imphal, Kohima, Sibsagar, Silchar, Tinsukia, Tezpur Dibrugarh, Itanagar, Shillong and Tura are linked with roads.
